Recognition of Achievements at the Department of Canadian Heritage

Six months into her mandate, the new Minister of Canadian Heritage, Mélanie Joly, already boasts major accomplishements that haven’t gone unnoticed.

First, the $1.87 billion dollars investment in the 2016 federal budget [1] proclaimed the arts and culture as a driver of the Canadian economy.

Second, the changes to the administration of grants and contributions [2] announced in April have expedited the funding process significantly for small to mid-size organizations.

Third, the announcement of the consultations on Canadian content in a digital world [3] is a historic step forward in cultural policy.

“The Canadian Arts Coalition is eager to participate in the consultation about the creation, discovery, and export of Canadian content online. This monumental examination of Canadian content regulation and dissemination is well-received by the arts sector,” affirmed Kate Cornell, Co-Chair of the Canadian Arts Coalition, in a thank you letter to the Minister [4].
