Tuesday, July 29, 2014 – As usual, the Canadian Arts Coalition will submit a brief to the Standing Committee on Finance, and will also request the opportunity to appear before the Standing Committee during pre-budget hearings.
After holding a total of six consultation meetings (three in English and three in French) with 42 arts service organizations, the recommendations we have decided to put forward are:
Recommendation One: Increase the Canada Council for the Arts’ Parliamentary appropriation by $35 million in 2015 with a long-term goal of reaching
Recommendation Two: Increase Canada’s presence on the world stage for 2017 by establishing a $25 million pilot program over three years at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development for Canada’s 150th birthday.
Recommendation Three: Investigate new revenue models to support a comprehensive Canadian Cultural Digital Strategy that would enable the creation, dissemination and engagement of Canadian cultural content online.
We encourage you to support and echo the Coalition’s recommendations in your own submissions, providing illustrations of their impact from your own artistic and geographic community.
The deadline to make submissions is Wednesday, August 6th. For more information on how to make a submission, visit the Finance Committee website.
